Figuring out Females at Fiamma Glass, Waltham, MA - Sunday, March 5th 2pm-7pm

Explore the ins and outs of solid sculpting glass at the torch! In this comprehensive workshop students will be lead through the process of sculpting human figures in borosilicate glass. Building on simple shapes, we will explore how to give life to your sculptures through movement and detail. Under Vacuum with Angie McHale and Percy Echols II at Pittsburgh Glass Center, Pittsburgh, PA - Monday May 29th - Friday June 2nd

In this 5 day workshop students will learn the fundamentals of hollow sculpting in Borosilicate glass at the torch in order to design plasma lighting. We will cover shaping, texture, and proper seals in order to make simple and complex sculptures. Sculpting techniques will include abstract and figurative forms. Learn to add and design around the electrode and filling tube. This is an intermediate/advanced level class and experience flameworking hollow borosilicate glass is required. We will cover advanced topics like encasements, inclusions of phosphor, and jacketing as well as problems and design challenges presented by this method of working. How Not to Burst Your Bubble: Hollow Sculpting in Boro at Salem Community College in Carneys Point, NJ - Tuesday June 20th- Friday June 23rd

In this 4 day intermediate level workshop students will learn to use the breath, heat, gravity, and tools to make hollow sculpture in borosilicate glass. Starting with abstract shapes, faces and sea creatures we will discuss the importance of wall thickness while getting familiar with the tools and "rules" of sculpting hollow glass. As we progress we will cover more challenging projects such as complex forms like the human figure and sculpting hollow attachments. For registration and more information click here.

Flameworking 2 Ways at Snow Farm: The New England Craft Program in Williamsburg, MA August 23rd-27th

This workshop is for the curious beginner, learn about the pros and cons of working with soft glass and borosilicate (hard) glass. First, try making beads and small sculpture from soft glass. Feel how the molten glass moves and flows, what it can do, and what the limitations are. Next, try the same with boro. Feel the difference in your hands of how to shape and sculpt the stiffer material. Learn about COE and annealing schedules for each glass. For the last two days of class, choose your glass and play! Tiny Planets: Marbles in Borosilicate Glass at Snow Farm: The New England Craft Program in Williamsburg, MA September 27th- October 1st

Create galaxies, underwater scenes, flowers, and whole worlds inside a marble! Using solid borosilicate glass and hollow tubes, learn techniques including compressions, implosions, vortexes, and silver and opal encasements. For the beginner or experienced student, embrace the challenge of bringing planets to life and leave class with a collection of awesome marbles plus a toolbox of glass skills that can be used in many ways.
